The holiday season is the best time to try fresh and trendy techniques so I decided to try the Starburst Technique not with a holiday theme but a wedding theme. I recently went to (crashed!) the wedding of Kathy and Ryan Swisher and I used a photo taken by their photographer Jess Ryan.
Below is a holiday themed Starburst Technique project along with a instructional video.
As you can see from the video it’s an easy technique, try it and send me a picture of your project. I would love to see what you create!

Do you want to take your Big Shot to the next level? Well our Expressions Thinlits Dies will allow you to do just that. These die cutting tools could be considered close cousins to our Framelits and Edglits, but they allow for even more intricate cuts and detailed designs that we haven’t been able to do before.
These dies are great to use to cut out words as an embellishment on projects, or use the negative space to add layers and interest to your cards or scrapbook pages.
Here are a few tips:
- To use Thinlits dies, you’ll need a Big Shot machine, Multipurpose Platform on tab 2, and Standard Cutting Pads, or you can use our awesome new Magnetic Platform. (Be sure to still use both cutting pads when using your Magnetic Platform.)
- As with all of our dies, the Thinlits are designed to be used with a single sheet of paper or cardstock.
When you run the Thinlit through the Big Shot, you may need to use a shim to get a clean cut due to variations in materials.
- And, due to the intricacy of the die, the paper might stick to the die after cutting. A few things you can do to help with this:
- Put a piece of wax paper between the cardstock and the die.
- Run the die through the Big Shot several times — this makes the paper easier to remove and also leaves a cleaner edge on the cut image.
- After running through the die through the Big Shot, tap it on the edge of your table to help the cut piece pop out.
- Or, you can simply push a paper piercing tool or a toothpick through the holes in the die.

2. Thinlits Dies
There are some products you just have to see in action before you realize how much you need them, right? These new card dies come with extra die pieces that have versatile designs, so you can use them on other projects, not just flip cards. (The Circle Card Thinlits Die comes with ten total pieces; the Label Card Thinlits Die comes with nine total pieces.)
3. The Best of 25 August Stamp Set
These adorable stamps are just itching to star in your cards, maybe a thinlit card?
Yesterday was my Post Convention Card Class and I had seven wonderful ladies attend. I was so caught up in talking about the new products that I forgot to take a picture of them. It’s too bad because I had a brand new face, Joyce Schmitt thanks to Jenifer Stephens! I also had a someone who hasn’t been to class in a very long time, welcome back Sonya Pardo!
Below are the three awesome cards we made.
I love the new Expressions Thinlets Dies (132171) and they seemed to be a favorite at the class. Contact me for a complete list of the supplies used to make this card.
An other class favorite was the Envelope Liners Dies (132172)
This card was created by my friend Iina Lee and I thought it was a fun card to make.
